  1. Visas and Permits

Visas can be obtained in advance from Royal Nepalese Embassies & Royal Nepalese Consulates abroad or upon arrival in any ports. All foreigners except Indian nationals) require visas.. Single-entry tourist visa costs US$30 valid for 60 days. A multiple entry visa costs USD 80. Visa fee has been waived for the people who will spend 3 nights or less in a visit and also to those repeaters who have previously stayed 15 nights or more within the same visa year. Visa fee to Chinese and the citizens of SAARC member countries also have been waived. Besides, you will have to obtain permits to trek in the certain areas of Nepal.

  1. Reaching to Nepal
    1. By Air

most travelers from Europe, North America and Australia have to change aircraft and/or airline en route. Nepal's only international airport is Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Airport

b. By Land
There are three main crossing points: Sunauli-Bhairawa, Birgunj-Raxaul Bazaar and Kakarbhitta-Siliguri. The Sunauli border crossing is the best one from Varanasi, India, the Birgunj crossing is the easiest from Kolkata, and Kakabhitta is the obvious choice from Darjeeling.

3. Transportation in Nepal
To travel to the main tourist areas outside Kathmandu, Nepal Airlines and several private companies offer domestic air services, but flights are relatively expensive. Public buses ply almost every paved road and some unpaved ones too.
Tourist buses are also available for which booking is required with Travel Agencies or Hotels. There are no trains and no drive-yourself rental cars in Nepal. Cars with drivers can be hired. Transportation inside Kathmandu Valley and around Pokhara can be done through taxis, micro and mini buses, auto-rickshaws, bicycle rickshaws and bicycles.

4. Currency and foreign exchange
Payments in hotels, travel agencies and airlines are made in foreign excha. nge. Credit Cards like American Express, Master and Visa are widely accepted at major hotels, shops and restaurants. Major banks, hotels, and the exchange counters at Tribhuvan Airport provide services for exchanging foreign currency. Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu, has also lots of exchange shops where the exchange rates are properly displayed on the boards.Exchange rates are also published in Newspaper Dailies such as The Rising Nepal, Himalayan Times and Kathamandu Post
5. Business Hours
The office hours of government office is 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m from Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays they remain open until 3 p.m. Banks are open from Sunday through Thursdays from 10 a.m to 3 p.m and on Friday till 12 p.m only.
Businesses offices are open from 10 am to 5 pm Sunday through Friday. Embassies and International organizations are open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Most shops open from 10 am and close at about 8 pm and are usually closed on Saturdays.

6. Taking Pictures
Before taking photographs in the temple premises ask whether it is permitted to take photographs there. This is because taking photographs is forbidden in most of the temples of Nepal.

7. Language: Nepali is the common Language spoken by the natives of Nepal. Further, most of the educated persons of Nepal can communicate in English. If you are from the country with your native language, you may ask the travel agent to arrange a guide for you who can speak in your language. That would make your trip very easy and worthy, as the tourist guide would guide your ways through all the cultural areas and the places of interest.

8. Medical advice:
Medical shops are commonly available in Kathmandu and may address you with the medicine that you are asking for. However since medical shops are not properly available in villages and remote areas, it is advisable that you carry your medicine along with you in the trip. Also it is advisable that the tourists take the injection regarding typhoid, hepatitis and meningitis before going to Nepal.

Drinking water: you are advised to not to drink tap water in Nepal. Water has either to be properly boiled and filtered or it is advisable that tourists drink the mineral water that is available in the market. Good hotels and restaurants do serve you with the purified water, however you ought to be careful while traveling in villages.
